'This recording marks the 3rd installment of the 'Soulsville Trilogy' that I started with Richard Bell back in 2003 with Soulsville I: Souled Out 'n Sanctified and 2005 Soulsville II: Rock This House. I believe it is a fitting tribute to Richard Bell, who we dedicate this recording to. He was an incredible human being and will always be remembered in our hearts and soul'. - Danny Brooks

"If it’s true, as Ringo Starr once said, that “you’ve gotta pay your dues if you wanna sing the blues”, then Danny Brooks has enough life experience to share with a dozen fledgling performers. But more importantly, he has uncommon chops as a musician and songwriter. Anyone who cares at all about music - and I mean REAL music that comes from the soul - should make themselves aware of Brooks winning blend of blues, R&B, and Stax". -Mark Rheaume/CBC Radio

- CHRISTIAN WEEK REVIEW: From shadow into the full sunlight - By D.S. Martin/ChristianWeek
Should I admit I'm not a huge fan of live albums? Often they're echoes of better studio recordings, only released to stay in the public eye between more worthwhile projects

- MAPLE BLUES: JOHN'S BLUES PICKS - On May 27th, Danny Brooks & The Rockin' Revelators recorded the 3rd installment for the Soulsville Trilogy that was started with Soulsville Souled Out 'n Sanctified and Rock This House. With Alec Fraser producing this time, the full Rockin' Revelators line-up was: Bucky Berger on drums, Dennis Pinhorn, bass, Papa John King, guitar, Lance Anderson, piano & B3, Ed Zankowski, sax, Rocky Verweel, trumpet and Award winning soul shouters Amoy Levy & Hiram Joseph on background vocals behind Danny Brooks on guitar/harp/vocals. These are not live versions of those songs, only one of those is here, but excellent new ones and recording them live was a stroke of genius...read more

WVEW 107.7- Blue Mondays: `Carolina's' humid backbeat and swamp-filled slide guitar, moves Brooks into an area at the crossroads of Solomon Burke, RL Burnside and Elmore James. It's a new and unique sound from one of my favorite singers, and from the first note, it sticks in your head like a bowl of `southern grits`. -Louis X. Erlanger/ WVEW 107.7 Blue Mondays

Endless Summer Network: Beach Music & Shag Music- Bulletin! Authentic Soul Singer!
Danny Brooks and the Rockin' Revelator's epitomize the journey of the Seeker who entered the dark forest to view the Grail without the Shroud, defeated their demons in battle, and returned triumphant with 'Live At the Palais Royale', soaked in 'Blues, Sweat, and Tears'. As much as you loved Danny before, prepare to open an even bigger space in your heart. Danny put new solos, horns, and depth to his 2005, self-penned 'Other Side of the Clouds' for this release. That's just the beginning. Danny Brooks lays down some a-u-t-o-b-l-u-e-s-o-g-r-a-p-h-y in his 'Carolina' a story that tells it all, except for who the band was that inspired him on the 2nd floor of a Fayetteville, NC hardware store in 1965. 44 years later he is still riffing to the notes that nailed him that day. Danny also wrote 'Hold Your Head Up', 'Hold On' and 'Homestead Boogie' -- still more AUTHENTIC gospel tinged jumpin' blues delivered by someone who has obviously been there, rather than found these feelings in a postcard collection. But the journey doesn't end there, the Rockin' Revelators leap into Blind Willie Johnson's 'Somebody On Your Bond' with an unforgettable familiarity that won't soon pass. Wail on, Danny! - Roadhouse Blues and Boogie Show/John Hook

CHICAGO's Black Gospel Blog: “When the trouble of the day gets in your way, hold on to yesterday” is a line from Danny Brooks’ 'Hold On'. It could be his motto...Brooks, the blue-eyed soulster from Canada, is back with the third installment of his Soulsville series. It is a recording of a May 2009 performance at Toronto’s Palais Royale. Part blues, part soul, part gospel, part swamp-pop, Live at the Palais Royale is all heart. In fact, it is hard to think of a current singer who demonstrates more admiration for ‘60s and ‘70s soul classics, especially those made in Memphis and...read full review

FAME Review: Live is a rollicking, boogie-ing, sweating, burning, hip-shaking display of pure unbridled energy with tons of grinning-like-a-cat sincerity. Brooks means each and every syllable he sings, earnest down to the soles of his feet, but that doesn't say that he can't have a damn good time, and boy howdy!, doesn't the audience know it!....read full review

Nashville Blues Society: There are probably millions of folks just like us, in the days before the Ipod, who went to sleep with that little pocket transistor radio under the pillow, tuned into WLAC. If you close your eyes, you can almost hear, right after a baby chick commercial, "the ole Hossman, from deep in the heart of Dixie, bringing you a record from a young man who hails from way up north where the cold wind blows. Have a listen to Danny Brooks with "Live At The Palais Royale:Soulsville III, and ENJOY" - Sheryl and Don Crow.
